LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar on Saturday took notice on the matter of income disparity among the government doctors.
During a hearing at Supreme Court’s Lahore registry, Nisar pointed out the income gap between national and foreign government doctors. He said that those called from abroad are paid heftily by the government in contrast to the local doctors.
He shed light on the wide gap between the salaries of doctors working in state-of-the –art facility of the government, being paid at least Rs. 1.2 million as salary compared to a salary of Rs. 0.2 million for working at an ordinary government hospital.
He questioned the pay structure of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI), stating that the chief secretary of the government gets a salary of Rs. 0.2 million. “What is the fault of doctors performing their duties in government hospitals for being underpaid?,” He questioned.
CJP demanded an explanation on such an income structure that is based on inequality and disproportion that forces the doctors to run private clinics.
He ordered the government to tend to the income disparity so that the doctors can work up to their responsibilities with honesty and practice legally.
Nisar also demanded details of hospitals run by Recep Tayyib Erdogan Trust, stating that he will keep on looking out for hospitals even if anyone has issues.
Nisar has previously been taking notice of many public issues, especially paying attention to government hospitals that seem to be forsaken by the government.
