MULTAN: A judicial magistrate court in Multan has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Mufti Abdul Qavi in the Qandeel Baloch murder case on Thursday.
Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Pervez Khan issued the warrants while he expressed his anger on why the case was running at a snail’s pace, being informed by the investigation officer that Qavi was not cooperating with them.
Immediately followed after the release of the warrants, an application was filed by Qavi for pre-arrest bail. District and Session Courts Judge Chaudhry Ameer Ahmed Khan granted him the bail in connection with the murder against a Rs100,000 surety bond.
Qavi, who was heavily censured for clicking ‘selfie’ photographs with slain social media celebrity Qandeel, has been investigated in connection with her murder.
He was also suspended from the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after the photographs were published out in the open and became an integral part of the police investigation being carried out into the celebrity’s murder.
The cleric has repeatedly denied any involvement in Qandeel’s murder but had stated that he would present himself to the police for questioning upon being summoned.
Rising to fame through her Facebook videos, in which she danced, proposed to politicians and made bold statements against the cleric in attempts of bringing him to shame, she was eventually put to silence in July last year at the hands of her own brother who confessed to strangling her to death over the so-called ‘honour’ of the family.
