LAHORE: A former seminary student threw a shoe at former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Sunday during an event at Jamia Naeemia in Garhi Shahu area of Lahore.
According to details, Nawaz Sharif was invited to speak at an event at the seminary but as he reached the rostrum to address the audience, a person in the audience threw a shoe at him, hitting his chest, and started shouting slogans in favour of Tehreeke-e-Labbayk Ya Rasool Allah.
The attacker was detained by the seminary administration and was handed over to the police. Nawaz Sharif remained unhurt in the incident.
The police told that the attacker was named Talha Munawwar and was a former student of the seminary.
Last night, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif was addressing a gathering in his hometown of Sialkot when a person had thrown ink at him, also claiming to have done so in protest against the government’s ‘attempt’ at changing the Khatam-e-Nabuwwat (finality of prophet) law last year.
In February, a shoe was thrown at Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal as well.
