LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar said on Sunday that case verdicts should be free from ambiguity.
Addressing the Punjab Women Judges’ Conference in Lahore, CJP said that the nation was fortunate that Pakistan had a written constitution.
“No judge can announce a verdict without fulfilling the legal requirements,” he said. He further said that providing hasty decisions was equal to burying justice.
The chief justice said that the law was the same for all citizens and the judges were also bound to keep the law in consideration while making decisions. “No judge has the power to make wrong decisions while using his authority,” he said.
The CJP stated that women were deprived from their rights in several parts of the country. He added that a system, which facilitates women in bring their issues forward, should be made.
The chief justice said that the constitution of Pakistan guaranteed equal rights to all citizens and women and children had been given prerogative in this regard for protection of their rights. He also cautioned that justice rushed was akin to being justice denied.
Expressing dissatisfaction at the pace of courts to dispose off cases, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar said that the judgments and orders issued during the process of the dispensation of justice should be free from all doubts.
“We are lucky to receive written proposals and suggestions to help resolve gender discrimination and though our constitution is free of any gender discrimination unfortunately in many areas of the country women are not accorded the status that they deserve,” he said.
“However, the situation in cities and urban areas in this regard is quite different. We have to introduce a system in courts where an effected person, particularly women folk, does not feel any hesitation to share problem,” he said.
The chief justice of Lahore High Court, while addressing the ceremony, said that 1.2 million were pending in the courts across Punjab. “The courts are being equipped with state-of-the-art equipment,” he said.
He said that “modern courts” were being made in which would hear cases regarding sexual violence.
The LHC CJ announced the establishment of support centre in LHC. He said that he was well aware of the problems faced by women judges.
The LHC CJ said that much work has been done for the rights of women in district courts while day care centre have been formed for their children.
He asserted that special benches had been established in the high court to resolve the cases quickly.
The chief justice said that modern technology was being used for the ease of litigants. Provision of transparent and timely justice to people is being ensured, he added.
