Seeking public assistant to bring Farishta’s culprits to task, police, on Sunday, requested those with any information related to the suspects in the rape case to contact Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations and Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigations. They have also announced a reward of Rs 1 million to anyone found with information related to the rape and murder of the 10-year-old, Farishta, in Islamabad.
Last week, Farishta’s body was discovered from a forest in the federal capital’s Shahzad Town.
According to her family, which belonged to Mohmand Agency, they had tried to file a missing person report to police on May 15 after the victim had left her home in the evening.
The family, however, claimed that it took police as many as four days until it registered a first information report (FIR) on May 19. Even then, a proper search was not initiated, they held.
The minor’s body was later discovered by locals, who had subsequently informed the police.
Then, an FIR was lodged against the Station House Officer (SHO) Shahzad Town and other policemen for negligence in the case.
Registered by Farishta’s father, Ghulam Nabi, the FIR stated that the family had visited the police station to register a missing person complaint.
Instead of looking for the girl, however, the SHO alleged that she had run away with someone.
Subsequently, Polyclinic’s medico-legal officer Dr Abid Shah was removed from his post over delay in conducting a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan has ordered action against the accused police officials for negligence in the case. He ordered cases registered against the concerned SHO and other relevant officials.
Pakistan Army has also offered its assistance in the investigation.
