National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi on Monday filed a Rs 1.28 billion corruption reference against Global Health Services (GHS) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Shoukat Ali Bangash in an accountability court in Islamabad.
Dr Bangash is accused of duping general public into making lucrative investment in his company and soliciting fake investment in his company from overseas Pakistanis.
On May 11, 2016, Pakistan’s Ambassador to United States Jalil Abbas Jilani wrote a letter to the NAB chairman, saying: “Such scams are not only discouraging expatriate Pakistanis from investing in Pakistan but they are also tarnishing the image of Pakistan abroad and undermining embassy’s efforts to engage overseas Pakistanis in national development.” It had also been transpired in investigation that accused Dr Bangash misused investors’ money to increase his personal share holding in the company.
Dr Bangash is also accused of charging exaggerated prices from investors and coaxing them for more investment under the garb of QIH. According to a statement, “There is no such provision of having a board of directors of QIH, as QIH is not registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) in any capacity.” NAB Rawalpindi Director General Irfan Naeem Mangi said that the bureau under the dynamic leadership of Chairman Javaid Iqbal was committed to arresting corrupt elements and bringing them to justice as per the law. He said that the NAB was making all-out efforts to recover looted money from corrupt elements.
