LAHORE: Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani has said that institutional mechanism of college teachers’ capacity building will be established.
Presiding over a meeting at the Forman Christian College, the minister said that the plan was aimed at sensitising teachers to around 721 public sector colleges to latest teaching methods.
The meeting pondered over teachers training for the purpose of capacity building of college sector teachers in the province. While discussing concept of teachers training, Raza Gillani said that several steps had been taken to elevate standards of higher education.
“Colleges will be given funds in the next budget to provide different facilities, including IT labs.” He said that more than 28,000 college teachers would benefit from the programme, which would ultimately benefit students. He said that the programme would help teachers learn new concepts and ideas in their subjects.
The minister said that teachers’ training programme would continue on permanent basis so that the teachers could continuously improve their professional competence and skills. He said that teachers’ training institutions should be set up at the divisional level.
He said that universities would be encouraged to act as engines of research and innovation, where research facilities would renew the intellect of students. “Instead of increasing the number of jobless educated youth, we want our institutions to produce trained professionals, who could lead the country in different fields,” he added.
Present at the meeting were Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin, Higher Education Department Special Secretary Tahir Yousaf, FCC Registrar Dr Hamid Saeed and others.
Earlier, Dr. Cusrow J Dubash of the FCC briefed the participants about the concept of teachers training.
