The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Tuesday announced to start a campaign for recovery of taxes from 169 high income personnel.
According to a statement released by the Bureau, the campaign was launched on the directives of Federal Minister for Finance Asad Umar, as part of the government’s efforts to widen the tax net. The statement said that 169 personnel, tax evaders and non-filers, would be targeted in the first phase. It said these personnel were owners of high net-worth businesses and were still not paying any taxes.
The statement said that all such tax evaders have been identified and are being proceeded against for recovery of payable tax, besides being subjected to heavy fines and penalties for tax evasion.
Also on Tuesday, the FBR decided to start action against all those tax evaders who have purchased properties worth over Rs20 million, or purchased 1,800 cc or larger engine cars, or received rent upto Rs10 million or more in a year, but have not filed their tax returns. The Bureau said that the drive for the recovery of taxes will be carried out across the country without any discrimination. The FBR has further warned tax evaders to file tax returns, and pay taxes within the due date as the government is committed to reviving the national economy by introducing and promoting a healthy tax culture.
