ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday slammed Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for supporting the same candidate for Senate chairmanship.
PPP and PTI had pledged support to Sadiq Sanjrani, the newly elected Senate chairman from Balochistan, who was contesting against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s Raja Zafarul Haq.
Speaking to PML-N’s Central General Council meeting, the former PM criticised PTI and PPP leaders for ‘bowing down’ in Quetta. Nawaz also questioned the credibility of Sadiq Sanjrani, inquiring that ‘who is the Senate chairman and what are his services to the country?’
Continuing his tirade, he said that leaders like those of PPP and the tehreek-e-insaf are a ’cause of shame’ for the entire nation.
The former PM also congratulated Shehbaz Sharif on being elected as PML-N’s permanent party president, while he also lauded Punjab chief minister for his services to the country.

Earlier on Tuesday, PML-N elected unopposed Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif as its permanent party president.
While the Central General Council was in session at Islamabad, it reached a decision to elect the unchallenged nomination of Shehbaz Shairf as PML-N’s president.
Nawaz also complained about his ouster from premiership saying that he was elected to power by public in 2013, while four years later the then PM ‘was suddenly sent packing’.
